Failure to detect early respiratory compromise signals available in ambulatory subjects, by monitoring their lung volume change as well as other vital signs continuously, has a significant human and economic impact.
This failure increases hospital readmission and exacerbation rates across the big three readmissions, respiratory, cardiac and sepsis, with increased hospital length-of-stay, patient exacerbation and decompensation in current models of monitored care. In respiratory alone, readmission costs increase by up to $38,000 pp, readmitted excess mortality risk increases to 39.4% and ICU throughput increases by 50%.
Until the Ribbon Device, there has been no non-invasive continuous ambulatory monitoring solution for early detection of change in both respiratory volume and rate.
Our solution, the Ribbon device, has the potential to flag early respiratory compromise within hours, eliminate delayed diagnosis, and enable earlier, more cost-efficient intervention for better patient outcomes.
